First Stop: Flowers

Every great Mother’s Day starts with flowers. Skip the grocery store and go local. These three Fairfield County florists consistently deliver arrangements that are stunning, fresh, and worth every penny

City Line Florist

City Line Florist has been a staple in Fairfield County since 1918. That kind of longevity does not happen without doing something right. Voted number one best florist in Fairfield County, they offer premium floral varieties flown in from around the world, same-day delivery, and arrangements that range from classic to absolutely breathtaking. If you want flowers that look like they belong in a Fairfield County home, this is your stop.

Fresh Flower Bar

Fresh Flower Bar is modern, lush, and deeply local. Based in Fairfield, they have won Best of the Gold Coast for florist four years running, and their designs are the kind you see all over Instagram and then spend twenty minutes trying to track down. They are open Tuesday through Saturday and co-located with Outdoor Design and Living, which makes it an even better stop. The arrangements are elevated, elegant, and feel genuinely personal.

📍 1301 Bronson Road, Fairfield, CT 06824

Winston Flowers

Winston Flowers is an institution. A third-generation, family-owned company with over 80 years in the business, their Greenwich location on Greenwich Avenue is a destination in itself. The shop functions as a living gallery, with displays that change weekly to reflect the season. If you want to send something that feels truly luxurious, Winston is the answer. They also offer same-day delivery throughout Fairfield and Westchester counties.

📍 382 Greenwich Ave, Greenwich, CT 06830

Second Stop: Brunch

Mother’s Day brunch is the main event. Fairfield County does this incredibly well. Here are three spots worth planning around.

Terrain Café

Terrain Café in Westport is one of those places that feels like a destination even before you sit down. Nestled inside a stunning converted Cadillac dealership from the 1940s, the space blurs the line between indoors and outdoors, surrounded by lush greenery, natural light, and the energy of a working garden shop. The menu is farm to table, seasonal, and genuinely thoughtful. Think flower pot bread, avocado Benedict, artisanal cheese platters, and a full bar with seasonal cocktails. It is the kind of brunch that makes you linger. Book a table early because it fills up fast on Mother’s Day.

📍 561 Post Road East, Westport, CT 06880

Nômade

Nômade on Main Street in Westport is inspired by the artistic and culinary scenes of Morocco, Tulum, and the Mediterranean. It is bohemian, warm, and the kind of restaurant that makes you feel like you are somewhere far away while sitting right in the heart of Westport. The menu leans Mediterranean with dishes like Hamachi crudo, edamame dumplings, and a croissant bread pudding that locals genuinely rave about. The vibe is elevated but relaxed, which is exactly right for a special morning out.

📍 150 Main Street, Westport, CT 06880

La Plage

La Plage is a waterfront casual restaurant and oyster bar at the Inn at Longshore in Westport, focusing on locally harvested seafood, garden-fresh produce, and sustainable meats. The setting overlooks the Saugatuck River and Long Island Sound, and there is truly no better backdrop for a Mother’s Day brunch. It is coastal, elegant, and genuinely delicious. If your mom loves the water and great seafood, this is the one.

Third Stop: Something Sweet

After brunch, take a little walk and find something sweet. These are three of the best bakeries in coastal Fairfield County.

The Cake Box

The Cake Box in Westport is a Fairfield County classic. Everything is baked from scratch daily, nut-free, and crafted with real ingredients. Their cupcakes are the stuff of local legend, including a mint chocolate chip flavor that comes out on Thursdays that people genuinely plan their week around. They also do custom cakes, gluten-free options, and everything is beautifully presented. Small, local, and completely worth it.

📍 10 Bay Street, Westport, CT 06880

Isabelle et Vincent

Isabelle et Vincent is a traditional French patisserie right on Post Road in Fairfield, and locals are obsessive about it for good reason. Open daily from 6am, the bakery produces everything from scratch using traditional French recipes, including almond croissants, cheese danishes, buttery baguettes, and tarts that look like they came out of a Paris shop window. It is understated, authentic, and one of those places that regulars guard closely. A box of pastries from here is a genuinely thoughtful gift.

📍 1903 Post Road, Fairfield, CT 06824

Oggi Gelato

Oggi Gelato is the real thing. This is authentic Italian artisan gelato made fresh on site every 15 to 20 minutes, with no artificial colors, preservatives, or hydrogenated oils. Founded in Europe with locations across Italy and Spain, the Fairfield location on Post Road is one of only two US locations, and we have both of them here in Connecticut. The flavors rotate but expect classics like pistachio, dark chocolate, milk cream, and tiramisu alongside seasonal fruit sorbets. The Sicilian brioche filled with gelato is worth a special trip on its own. Affordable, genuinely delicious, and the kind of local find worth telling people about.

Fourth Stop: The Perfect Gift

After brunch and something sweet, it is time to find a gift that actually means something. These three local boutiques are the real deal.

Element 50

Element 50 is a crystal and gemstone shop in Fairfield that has built a genuine community around intentional living, energy, and connection with nature. If your mom is into crystals, astrology, meditation, or simply appreciates beautiful, meaningful objects, this is an experience more than it is just a shopping trip. The shop is described by regulars as a total energy game-changer. They also offer astrology readings, which makes for an incredibly memorable Mother’s Day gift.

📍 1438 Post Road, Fairfield, CT 06824

Millie Rae’s

Millie Rae’s has been a fixture on Post Road East in Westport for over 13 years, and was voted Westport’s Best Boutique in 2025. The shop is warm, beautiful, and filled with home decor, jewelry, women’s clothing, gifts, and original art. They cycle through seasonal inventory and always have something new. It is the kind of place where you go for one thing and leave with five, which makes it perfect for Mother’s Day browsing.

📍 1011 Post Road East, Westport, CT 06880

Splurge

Splurge on Lewis Street in Greenwich is a local institution. One of the most loved gift shops in the county, it carries an ever-changing assortment of handpicked jewelry, home decor, hostess gifts, and personalized items. The owner, Sonia, has been running the shop for years and genuinely cares about helping customers find something that feels right. They even have an on-site personalization kiosk for monogrammed gifts. If you want something thoughtful and unique without spending hours searching, Splurge is the place.

📍 39 Lewis Street, Greenwich, CT 06830

Fifth Stop: Afternoon Plans

The best part of Mother’s Day is slowing down. Here are three options for a beautiful, low-key afternoon.

Sherwood Island State Park

Sherwood Island in Westport is Connecticut’s first state park and one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in Fairfield County. Free for Connecticut residents, the park offers easy walking along the shore, panoramic views of Long Island Sound, open green space, and the kind of quiet that is genuinely hard to find. In May, the light is soft and the crowds are manageable. Bring a blanket, take a walk, and just be together.

📍 Sherwood Island Connector, Westport, CT 06880

Bartlett Arboretum and Gardens

Bartlett Arboretum in Stamford is a 93-acre garden, arboretum, and nature preserve that is consistently overlooked and absolutely stunning in May. Five miles of walking trails weave through trees, ponds, wetlands, a wildflower garden, and a boardwalk. It is peaceful, beautiful, and completely free to walk. Programs and tours are available if you want a more structured experience. This is the kind of place that makes you grateful you live here.

📍 151 Brookdale Road, Stamford, CT 06903

Maman (Coffee Stop)

If the afternoon calls for slowing down with a great coffee and something from the pastry case rather than a walk, circle back to maman in Westport. The atmosphere is warm, unhurried, and genuinely lovely. Sit by the window, order something good, and just enjoy the day.

📍 44 Church Lane, Westport, CT 06880

Final Stop: Dinner

End the day somewhere that feels like a celebration. These are three of the best dinner options in coastal Fairfield County for a special occasion.

Artisan Restaurant, Tavern and Garden

Artisan is in my actual backyard in Southport, and I recommend it without hesitation. Located at the Delamar Southport, the restaurant celebrates New England-inspired American cuisine with farm-fresh ingredients and a setting that is both elegant and completely comfortable. The main dining room has an 18th century Scandinavian warmth to it, the garden courtyard is beautiful in May, and the menu features chilled oysters, house-made pasta, and seasonal dishes that are genuinely excellent. Chef Frederic Kieffer has been at the helm since the beginning and it shows in every detail. Make your reservation now because they will be fully booked.

📍 275 Old Post Road, Southport, CT 06890

The Whelk

The Whelk is one of the most beloved restaurants in Westport, and for good reason. Located along the Saugatuck River on Riverside Avenue, it serves sustainable seafood with an ever-changing menu driven by what is fresh and local. The roasted oysters are legendary. The wine list is curated and approachable. The vibe is upscale casual with a waterfront energy that is hard to replicate. It is the kind of place where the whole table is happy, which is exactly what you want on Mother’s Day.

📍 575 Riverside Avenue, Westport, CT 06880

L’Escale

If you want to end the day with something truly special, L’Escale at the Delamar Greenwich Harbor is the answer. A Riviera-style restaurant right on the water in Greenwich, L’Escale captures the warmth and elegance of the south of France with 200-year-old stone tiles from Provence, a working fireplace imported from a French castle, and over 500 feet of waterfront dock space for al fresco dining. The Provençal menu is beautifully executed, the service is exceptional, and the setting is simply stunning. This is where you take someone you want to make feel genuinely celebrated.

📍 500 Steamboat Road, Greenwich, CT 06830

A Few Practical Notes

Mother’s Day is one of the busiest restaurant days of the year in Fairfield County. Make your reservations as soon as possible, especially for Terrain, Artisan, The Whelk, and L’Escale. Most of these spots will be fully booked two to three weeks out.

For Sherwood Island, parking is free for Connecticut residents with a valid CT registration. Bring your card just in case.

If you are doing the full day itinerary, it flows beautifully starting with flowers, moving to brunch, a sweet stop, some boutique browsing, a quiet afternoon outside, and dinner to close it out. It is a lot, but it is also exactly the kind of day that becomes a tradition.

Happy Mother’s Day! 🤍
